Honeywell Aerospace  is expanding beyond their already existing automation and control systems activities at their Mexicali, Baja California, facility and announced in May 2006 the creation of a $40 million systems integration laboratory.

According to reports in the San Diego Union Tribune [pdf], the new 100,000 square foot laboratory initially employed over 100 engineers, with an additional 200 engineers added in 2007.  By having the systems simulation laboratory in close proximity to Honeywell Aerospace's Arizona headquarters (as well as to aerospace firms in California) it is expected that the company will be able to increase response times, while taking advantage of Baja California's lower cost engineering workforce.

In addition to the new operation in Baja California, Honeywell Aerospace also recently announced plans for a new machining center in Chihuahua.
